STEP 1: IS LCVA RIGHT FOR YOU?
Is online learning the right choice? LCVA offers a unique online program that provides students the flexibility to learn at a place and pace that suits their needs. To be successful, virtual students must be self-disciplined, self-motivated, responsible, and challenged by rigor.
A parent/guardian will serve as a hands-on learning coach. Parents and guardians must play an active role by monitoring their student(s) to ensure they are meeting weekly attendance and progress goals. Most students in grades 7-12 can independently navigate Edgenuity and submit work for their courses but may need assistance from their learning coach regarding content or directions. Students are encouraged to contact their LCVA teachers as needed.
7-12 Virtual
LC Virtual Academy has partnered with Edgenuity, a Web-based curriculum, to enhance your student's educational experience. Students in grades 7-12 will be assigned an LCVA teacher that will monitor student progress, be available for academic support, and communicate with students and parents.
LCVA teachers and students follow the LC Schools academic calendar. Teachers are available during normal school hours from 8:00-3:00. During this time, teachers are available to answer questions or meet with students virtually upon request. All emails/questions will be answered within 24-business hours. Edgenuity provides a self-paced curriculum with set due dates to ensure students complete each quarter's coursework by the end of the grading period.
Virtual learning allows students to establish their own weekly schedule, days and times, schoolwork is completed. However, students must maintain adequate weekly progress and attendance in order to continue with LCVA. For the 2021-2022 school year, adequate weekly progress is defined as "On Target" in all courses on Sunday at 11:59 pm OR work 10 hours AND complete 35 activities each Monday-Sunday calendar week. Students who do not maintain adequate academic progress and attendance will be expelled from LCVA and sent back to their registered home school for face-to-face learning. This policy will change for the 2022-2023 school year, please check back later for updated information.
The LCVA program is popular with high school students who desire a flexible school schedule. This includes students who are employed, students with special medical needs, students who are experiencing social challenges at their current schools, and students who wish to accelerate their graduation. Enrollment is open prior to the beginning of each new academic semester and is a semester-long commitment.
